Jeffrey Dean Morgan: Watchmen’s The Comedian

A year from now (3/6/09), the very first comic book to ever win the Hugo Award (in 1988) will be unleashed as a motion picture: Alan Moore’s Watchmen. I read about this from a CHUD article and I — and the rest of the geek universe — instantly blew a collective wad of orgiastic ecstasy at the full character portraits that director Zack Snyder’s had revealed to us.

As for the bear-related part: The Comedian has been the only bearish character in the comic book and, boy, did they get him right:

The first time I really noticed Jeffrey Dean Morgan (aka the cuter Javier Bardeem) was when I brought my mom to see P.S. I Love You on her birthday.  The movie bored me to dried tears, but I found myself strangely attracted to Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character.  He was definitely not my type, but there was something about him.  Anyway, finding out that he is playing The Comedian and actually seeing him in that static full regalia, well, consider me stoked and call me “nerd.”

  1. They didn’t get it so right with the Nite Owl.
Modern era Dan Drieberg was portrayed as being chubby, and when he finally gets back in costume he has a noticeable belly.

Wow – I just totally geeked out there… Sorry.

  2. No need for apologies. Geeking out is wholeheartedly accepted and encouraged here. 🙂

Hopefully, the photo of Nite Owl is his younger self. I just don’t know how they can pull off showing a belly on what looks like an “armor-like” costume when he gets older. But then again, if you looked at his top abdomen, you’ll notice an indentation, as though he’s deeply breathing in. Maybe that section would “pop out” later for his gut? Just wishful thinking, I suppose.

  3. just wanted to say, I stumbled on your blog after googling “jeffrey dean morgan the comedian,” as you described, and, while i wasn’t looking for bear sites, i’m absolutely NOT horrified or violated by your attraction to him. In fact, I share it! and while i’m neither a bear myself, nor a gay man, i’m happy that he’s starting to get attention from the bear community. It’s about time, I say. More JDM love in the world can never be a bad thing. So just know, you’ve gotten a new reader from google, and i commend your efforts.

  4. I live in Houston. I first became aware of Jeffrey Dean Morgan and The Watchmen when seeing a poster advertising the film in a New York subway station. He definitely dominated that poster. I could not take my eyes off of him and for once I didn’t mind waiting for the train. Bear indeed!
